Many students with behavior disorders or Autism have difficulty reading cues about appropriate personal space and boundaries. We work hard to teach students about “not standing too close,” but explicit instruction in the finer nuances of personal space (when it is appropriate to touch others’ belongings, blocking aisles, the noise created by fidgeting, etc.) goes neglected. This 50-minute lesson is lighthearted but still teaches those nuances with a kinesthetic, hands-on project.
