We know that our students need lots of practice with the long sounds of Vowel Teams, and this resource offers engaging activities for students to tune in to these crucial skills, while enjoying the process!
Once you have taught these sounds, the picture-word cards add visual support (great for all students, especially great for ELL), and the word and sentence strips offer tons of practice to build fluency in daily reading. The vowel teams included in this unit are:
EA ee ai ay ie oa OW oe ew ue ui
Each vowel team is featured independently. I chose the picture cards/ word/ sentence strips to include vowel team-consonant (VTC), consonant-vowel team (CVT), consonant-vowel team-consonant (CVTC), and I tried to avoid consonant digraphs, diphthongs, r-controlled vowels, and consonant blends, which I feature in separate resource units, but included a few as a BONUS . In the sentence strips I did use a lot of high frequency words to augment the fluency building. To differentiate between two sounds for the same spelling pattern, the long sound will be capitalized EA in tea vs. ea in head).
