PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

10 Key Steps to Evidence-Based Writing

***Now includes all 10 steps and title page in a small version that fits perfectly in the square adhesive label holders from Target Dollar Spot***

This product includes 10 steps that take a writer from pre-planning to revising/editing. It was created with a focus on writing tasks with 2 or more passages. It works with both informational and opinion writing. The steps are written in "I Can..." format and include an explanation of each task at the bottom. Appropriate for grades 3+

About this Product:
After attending several writing trainings in Florida, I was amazed at how much had changed since I was in elementary school. The state’s expectations for writing has skyrocketed! I knew I had to change the way I approached writing as a teacher in order to help my kids be more prepared for the tasks that were ahead of them.
This product was displayed in my classroom (in a much uglier, plain format) and I referenced it constantly throughout my writing lessons. It was my guide while I modeled both informational and opinion essays for the class. It was shared with other teachers across different grade levels, and remains a resource in their rooms today. I used in with my small groups to target the areas they specifically needed to work on. It made my students more independent because they used these steps to guide them through (leaving time for me to have one-on-one conferences…yay!)

The steps include (in more student-friendly words):
-Finding the task
-Searching for the purpose for writing
-Preparing a planning sheet
-Reading the texts and jotting notes
-Grouping evidence
-Using boxes & bullets (includes ”Planning Page” option)
-Citing sources
-Elaborating evidence
-Using your own words
-Rereading/editing your work

You can also scale the steps down before printing to create smaller sized resources that can be glued in student notebooks, or laminated and clipped on a binder ring for use at writing centers!

Keep in mind that this product was created for my own classroom. It includes wording and terminology that I actually use with my students. Please be sure you agree with the steps listed above before purchasing. If you have any questions feel free to message me!
