This is a great activity to do anywhere from once a week to daily! In our instructional day, our team has a 10-15 minute block called "10 MINUTE MATH", where we do activities that may not be aligned with our current math unit, but serve as cumulative review of units taught.
This "Today's Number" activity is done on Mondays. The number used is always the amount of days of schoool that we've been in. The kids love knowing how many days it's been since the start of school.
The focus of this activity is place value and number sense, with some computation. We gradually add to it throughout the year, and eventually the students are timed when completing it. I recommend starting with page 1 (have students glue it in to a interactive math notebook. Once they have the routine down, move to page 2)
