Banging your head over comprehension? Use these 10 short reading passages - based on children's classics - and with running record assessment - to help your students understand comprehension skills. Used with great success on children and adults 8+ to build fluency, understanding and expression (including dyslexic students).
Includes teacher assessment to track improvement. Classic literature is fantastic to improve vocabulary and reading due the richness of the language used. I improve reading ages by 4-5 years in my low attaining students. The children and adults that I tutor make their way upwards, often from the bottom of the class to the top. I create worksheets to build understanding and skill.
Read, discuss and re-read to see instant improvement. There are 10 units included. I have tried to put these reading passages together to suit both older children and adults who have reading difficulties.

Please download the preview file where you will see examples worked with different aged pupils so that you can decide if these worksheets are suitable for you. I have found that some children have needed more support than others. I sometimes read through the text first or after the second read if they need more help, but they are soon able to read the passage fluently. You know your students best, so looking at the preview file will help you decide if these passages are right for them.
Each unit takes on average 30-50 minutes, depending upon the reader. We tend to have a lot of discussion around the vocabulary and we also use the lesson to learn spellings that come up.
