I was getting frustrated with students failing to remember some of the kernel concepts presented in my Chemistry class. Last year I started a daily "fun quiz" to help with this issue. Throughout the year I repeated these quizzes ad nauseam and found that students remember key ideas much better. As a result I felt much better with some of the struggling students leaving my class with at least basic knowledge of Chemistry. These quizzes became part of my warm-up and if a student got 5/5 they could enter their quiz into a box, from which I would pull two names and give out some candy. At first the draw pile is small, but it quickly grows! When students approached these ideas in a new lesson or on an assessment they were much more comfortable than in previous years.
