Description

There are ten 100 charts included. Each chart has a different range of numbers (1-100, 101-200, 201-300, etc.) so students are exposed to a broad range of values. This will give them practice to apply their knowledge of place value and notice patterns as values increase.

There are 2 different styles for each 100 chart – a black and white printable and one with a colorful background if you choose to project it for whole group practice.

Initially, I do this whole group as a thought exercise during the beginning of math. Students work in pairs with their own 100 chart while I have one projected. We read each clue together and navigate through the 100s chart. Their charts are in dry erase pockets so they can mark on them for each task card and clear it for the next one.

As students become accustomed to the math language and understand the prompts on the task cards, I let them use these as a station. For this method, you can print out the task cards on colored card stock and have them fill out their recording sheet with the answers. Students can still use the 100s chart printable while completing the task cards in a station.

My students found these riddles challenging at first but then began to break down the riddle step by step, and it gave them a much better understanding of finding a number on a hundreds chart as well as building problem solving skills
