(Intermediate - Advanced)
This is 100 days of the bell ringers that I use in my French II-IV classes. There are two PowerPoints- idiomatic expressions and verbs of the day. Also included is the testing template. Lastly, I have added a few notes of tips and tricks that I have learned from doing this for a few years to help this activity run more smoothly. All the work is already done for you!
As students walk in, the idiomatic expression PowerPoint is already displayed on the screen. Although the students think that all they are doing is learning how to describe their world more colorfully through idiomatic expressions, most do not realize that they are steadily internalizing new vocabulary, pronunciation, and French sentence structure. Another bonus of this activity is that cross-curriculum ideas and a deeper analysis of language often arise from the discussion of the expression at hand.
The verb of the day PowerPoint follows the idiomatic expression. In this bell ringer, students try to accurately conjugate a verb in the present tense. The most commonly-used verbs (to be, to do, to go, etc.) are repeated multiple times throughout the PowerPoint.
Finally, included in this package is the test format that is used after 10 days' worth of expressions/verbs has been completed.
After some time, you will notice that students' knowledge and general intuition about the language begins to grow and become more and more refined, helping them to be able to recognize and use French in a more rapid and natural manner.
