I developed this resource to use with my classes during the week of “100 Day Celebrations.” I designed it so that I would have something to use with each grade level (K-5) that tied in with classroom celebrations.
This unit includes the follow resources:
•Pocket Chart Word and Picture Cards (K/1):
I use this with my K/1 students. I introduce the pattern of text (100 days of school, 100 days of reading, etc.) with word and picture cards. Then I reinforce the text with the following emergent reader (reproduced in black and white for each student).
•“100 Days of School” Emergent Reader (reproducible) (K/1):
The simple text (100 days of learning, 100 days of reading, etc.) is made predictable with the picture cues. This could be used independently or with the above pocket chart cards.
•100 Books to Read (2nd-5th):
I gave this to my 2nd-5th grade students at the beginning of the school year. During the week of 100 Day celebrations, students who had read 100 books in 100 days got a reward from the prize box.
•“100 Days of School” Reproducible Booklet (1st-3rd):
I used this with my 2nd-3rd grade students. Simple, rhyming text ("100 days of reading fairy tales, picture books, and books about frogs. 100 days of writing words, sentences, and stories about dogs.") recall the learning activities of the year.
•100 Books Scavenger Hunt (2nd - 5th):
I had my students work in teams to see how quickly they could find 100 books. They loved it, and were excited to find a few previously “undiscovered” topics. Of course, I loved the review of skills in using library search strategies. I designed the pages so that there’s space to write a call number. This is a great review of library organization and search skills (without the computer).
