This 1,000 word reading English fluency program (K-6th grade-sight word) is designed for bilingual, ESL and struggling readers. However, our school finds the resource beneficial for all our students as it provides a fundamental means to rapidly accelerate a child back to grade level reading proficiency. Our fourth grade teachers have discovered it also aids in writing for all students regardless of educational background. The enclosed guidelines provide a school or a classroom to transform non-readers to readers, and it works in conjunction with the 800 English Word Non-Negotiable program that also fills out the basic language arts word gaps that may exist in each student’s education. It is an absolutely essential program in all Title 1 schools and use with struggling readers at any elementary school. This program is not fancy in design or implementation, but it is extremely effective and an entry-level teacher will be as effective as a veteran teacher with heightened classroom performance. Finally, it is imperative that the teacher run a parallel structured phonics program in conjunction with this whole language program. Note: I have opted in September, 2015 to provide this as a free resource. A title 1 school or a medium/high SES school with struggling readers and writers will have difficulty academically with their/those students without using it...or a resource very similar. The last two National Blue Ribbon Schools in Central Texas have used the three stop-gap programs to rapidly accelerate children of all races and cultural backgrounds to grade level: 1,000 word fluency program, 800 word non-negotiable 2nd through 6th grades (1st grade is also on this website for free), and the Celestial Numeracy/Formative Loop daily numeracy program. These schools are besting private schools and the highest socioeconomic schools in the State of Texas. It is no longer a question of how...it is a question of when. Best of luck with your students.
