These flashcards have a verb on one side, asking "What is the noun?" and the noun on the flip side, asking "What is the verb?" The nouns are made by adding the suffixes -tion, -ment, -al, -ance and their spelling variations. There are also flashcards for words that retain the same form for noun & verb such as "value" and "respect".
The cards can be used for individual or pair work, or can even be projected for whole-class practice. I use them in ESL class to teach suffixes and spelling.
The cards are easy to make. First, print the Verb-Noun file on 3 x 5 index cards. Then, print the Noun-Verb file on labels (Avery template 5395). Affix the labels to the back of the index cards. I use this approach because I find it cumbersome to print index cards 2-sided and ensure the words on both sides match.
TIP: Print them on colored index cards to make them more interesting. Or, use different colored index card for different suffixes. Another idea - change the font color to distinguish different suffixes or just to add more color if you only have white index cards. Enjoy!
