My students often need some direction regarding "what to write about" in their journals. So, I found a way to make things easier for you and for your students! Here are 55 journal topics which will last you the first 11 weeks (or longer). Some are prompts that are response to literature tasks (fiction and nonfiction), while others are focusing on the importance of one's character, personal experiences, etc.
Simply print these journal topics onto 1 in. x 2-5/8 in. Address Labels (the one that has 30 labels per page) and give a sticker sheet to each student. One of the pages has "3 per pg" in the name. For this one, you can print one label sheet for every 3 students...just cut it into thirds and hand out.
I have my students keep the label sheets tucked in the back of their spiral notebooks for easy access. You can also have them keep the labels in a writing folder, folded and placed in a pencil box, etc.
I hope this resource helps you to encourage your students' love of writing!
