This is a culminating activity for the play 12 Angry Men. The students will examine real court cases and prepare their own closing arguments in a step by step, detailed process. A persuasive essay is the final product, however there three steps to help the students create a well-constructed essay. The students will use their persuasive reading and writing skills and knowledge to complete this activity. They will need to have a basic knowledge of persuasive techniques such as bandwagon, tesimonials, citing statistics and recognizing fact vs. opinion. They will also need to be familiar with recognizing propaganda, bias and stereotype. They will also be asked to include an opposing argument in their writing.
