The way to intrigue and engage middle and/or high schooler students is by shocking them with spontaneity, originality and tricking them into learning and enjoying it!
I have included 12 strategies in this document to learn HOW to begin lessons in your Language Arts classroom to eliminate apathy and boredom (most ideas could be tweaked and used for all content areas):
Here is a sneak peak of the first three;
1. Have students complete “Black Out Poetry” ripped out of old books previous teachers have had for decades....
2. Have a “Fortune Cookie Friday” once a month or once a quarter
3. “Education” Reversal Poem with the first line “We don’t need no education”
The attachment gives detailed instructions for these three activities and also explains 9 other things you can do to increase motivation and engagement from students who seem disconnected or bored.
