Analogies are everywhere! You find them in all subjects, and from Grade 3 through college. Although I designed these for the Common Core language standards for 5th through 8th grades, they could be used almost anywhere.
This product, TWELVE TYPES OF ANALOGIES POWER POINT provides a simple, eye-appealing introduction to 12 of the most common types of analogies. (part to whole, synonyms, antonyms, description, item to category, tool to worker, action to object, fact to opinion, cause to effect, product to worker, item to purpose, and rhyme words). I’ve divided them into four sets with three types of analogies each. The power point has 29 slides with definitions, many examples, and a review after each of the four sets. Answers are provided in a separate file.
If you need more, I have for sell (in my Mama Flanders’ TPT store) both Task Cards and Worksheets for each set. The Task Cards are great for reinforcement, practice, review, out-the-door cards, learning centers, and group work. For each of the four sets there is a 2-page differentiated worksheet. Answers provided.
If your state uses Common Core Standards, analogies are found in the standards ELA Literacy L 5.5b, 6.5b, 7.5b, and 8.5b.
The product is saved as a PDF document.
