We all face daily stress, even elementary school students! This counseling lesson helps students use the power of positive thinking to cope with their feelings of stress.
Three poems are used to help students prepare for stress, cope with stress and identify sources of strength in their lives. The poems are used as students take turns pulling either a nail or a washer from a jar. The nail symbolizes stress and the washer symbolizes love. Students then either read a poem about dealing with stress or a poem appreciating the love that surrounds them.
To prepare for the lesson, you can visit your local hardware store and use real nails and washers to add an element of fun for the kids! The lesson also comes with clipart to be used if you feel more comfortable using paper products.
