The 13 British Colonies: Who? What? Where? When? Why? is a series of three charts that introduce the students to the founding facts of the original thirteen British Colonies in what will become the United States. Each completed chart is followed by a blank one for the students to complete. The completed charts can be used to make a transparency to project using an overhead projector, as information that can be projected from your computer or as a series of handouts for the students to use for the last activity. The last activity is the creation of a Thirteen Colony Map using the information from the charts.
The charts can also be used as a review tool in preparation for a final test over the thirteen colonies. I would hand out completed charts accompanied by a review sheet to be filled in by the students. The review sheet should include questions that require the students to use the information from the charts.
Another handy tool in the What's That series from CK Teaching Aids, the topics you need in Social Studies and Language Arts for Middle School.
Map-making skills, research, mapping skills, original colonies.
