Netflix's documentary 13th is a powerfully important background building film whether you're teaching about social justice, black history, or American politics. Use this film worksheet in-person or virtually to make sure students are following along and not zoning out.
Students will track the prison population numbers, summarize key ideas, and fill in the blanks. Not only with this increase their background knowledge in the early days of a new unit, but it will certainly test their listening skills, too!
Print this to watch the film in class with students or use TPT's digital tool to push this out virtually to your Google Classroom.

While the 13th documentary can be used for a number of topics and subjects, I think it pairs especially well with social justice novels and any units on recent events and the Black Lives Matter movement.
