Product Description
Have you been handed a book to teach that you've never read? Perhaps you're embarking on a series of discussions with a group of students that is slow to warm up?

I've designed these activities for teachers who want to engage students on ANY material. I find that students arrive to class with heads full of everything but last night's reading. By giving them some time to work on an engaging activity while I get things ready for what's next, they review what they've read and we all start class prepared and focused.

The fifteen assignments featured here include creating a comic strip version of the text, writing script for a talk show with characters as guests, creating an iPod playlist for a character, identifying key events from the reading in a timeline, designing a piece of graffiti for a character, and many more. All the activities call upon students to make key connections to the text so they have reviewed the reading and are prepared to discuss it.

These activities can be done individually, in pairs, or in small groups. They can be graded or ungraded. An Educator's Guide is included in the packet.

Still not sure these will save you angst and inspire your students to jump on the discussion train? Reviewers have called this "one of the BEST products on TPT," "wonderful" and "so creative".

Check out the preview to get a sense for how these great activities will make your life easier day after day.

I have adapted some of these activities to cater to teachers who prefer handouts specifically tailored to certain books. Please be aware that if you buy The Hunger Games Unit Activities, The Hobbit Unit Activities, or The Harry Potter Unit Activities, you will see versions of these printables. Please do not accidentally buy the same product twice!
