PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This packet contains 180 large communication strips (10”x1.25”) that can be used to help students with autism or other language skill deficits to communicate their wants and needs. These strips can be effective not only with students with limited expressive/vocal language, but also for students with autism with developed vocal language. At times students with autism find it difficult to communicate their needs with words, especially under stressful/uncomfortable/non routine situations, so these strips can also be used to effectively communicate their needs non vocally to an adult. Just having the communication strips can effectively reduce anxiety/negative behaviors as the student now KNOWS they have a way to let you know what they need.

Strips are intended to be large to help accommodate for fine motor deficit. If you wish to make them smaller, you can just select ‘print multiple pages per sheet’ in your print options, and then select ‘2 pages per sheet’. This will produce a strip that is sized 4.3”x1.25”.

These can also provide spring board for language development and expressive language usage for students with delayed expressive/spoken language. Students can show you the appropriate visual to initiate a request/communicate a need that they wish to express to an adult/another person, or to respond to a question/request asked of them.

Each strip has both a picture and a written form of communication.

Chose what strips you want to use for each student, then print, cut out, laminate and connect them together using a book ring. Strips are intended to be portable and to go with the student to their different classes/room/environments/social settings etc. Strips can also be hung on the wall, book shelf, or other areas where key communication is required, so that the student has easy access to them if needed.
Blank strips are provided so that personalized strips can be made (student’s favorite toys, places, people, actions etc).

Strips can also be used to augment the teacher/therapist’s spoken language, or can be systematically presented to elicit a response to a verbal question (eg, the teacher presents an ‘I like’ and ‘I don’t like’ visuals for the student to touch when the teacher presents new foods/toys/reinforcers etc).
