Product Description
What do the War of 1812, the Civil War, and the Titanic have in common? They all have anniversaries in 2012! Here's a fun and easy way to compare them.

This little unit is a fun way to show students just a bit of how ships have changed over the last two centuries - and some of the differences between warships and cruise ships. I wrote it for a one-class lesson for an elementary age American History class, but it could be adapted for a wider age range, and/or for a World History class as well.

The first time I did the lesson I just compared 1812, 1912, and 2012, so that's what the first chart shows, as well as the first set of pictures. But then I decided that it would be interesting to include 1862, with the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War upon us. So I have included a second chart that includes all four dates, so you can decide which to use.

You can use the stats provided as copywork or you can go through the boxes one at a time, giving the students the information they need one box at a time.
