This offering is a set of nineteen STEM useful puzzles blending together science and mathematics (14 puzzles) and English and mathematics (5 puzzles. Each of the nineteen puzzles is either accompanied with a Prelude or an introductory paragraph which will give a brief review of the mathematics needed to complete the puzzles as well as explaining how the puzzle part is to be done. The science topics reviewed are snakes, sea shells, hurricanes, Palmetto trees, turtles, alligators, crocodiles, live oak trees, dolphins, sand, and shoreline definitions. The math topics used are raising various numbers to powers, using negative exponents, simple arithmetic, using the order of operations, and a shortcut method for squaring numbers ending in five. The English topics reviewed are grammar, picking the correct homophone, spelling, and using an apostrophe correctly. Only in two of the puzzles is elementary algebra necessary, so all nineteen puzzles could be used from 7th grade to 12th grade . . . by teens and adults. They'll be perfect for those days in which the same topic is going to be taught in both science and math or English and math. But since those days are extremely rare they'd BEST be employed on those days before vacation when homework might be given and something constructive will take place,on those testing days when homework will be given and there's not enough time to begin anything new but mere busy work is not desired, on those days when you'll be having a sub and you still want something positive to happen, and most of all, for those blizzard bags when not much can be taught but much can be reviewed and mastered.PLEASE BE AWARE that when using one of the mathacrostic puzzles it will work best if you first change your print setting to "landscape" before printing the puzzle. The print will be rather small if you do not change to landscape.
