This is my masterpiece PPT lecture covering the 1906 SF Earthquake and Fire.
Uses a opening assignment of what students already know about earthquakes.
Dives into the effects of the earthquake and the cause and result of the first.
I've used the to coincide with my Dragonwings Unit in discussion of similes, metaphors and personification. At the end of the presentation there's an interview of the famous tenor ENRICO CARUSO. He explains his first hand account using these figures of speech.
This works very well as students are then tasked to choose a natural disaster of their own to write their own fictional account of a natural disaster. They will be required to use a certain number of the figures of speeches to create their own writing.
