The 1920s is often referred or taught in U.S. History as a time of economic and social boom; thus, the name, “The Roaring Twenties.” Though the 1920s were prosperous times for some, it was also a period of despair for others. After my students have learned about both sides of this decade, I assess them via an essay. This assessment requires students to utilize high level thinking skills such as evaluation and analysis when responding to the prompt. Generally, I give my students about a week to turn in a polished essay. This document contains the assessment instructions, essay outline organizer (for additional scaffolding), and a detailed rubric.
