- 0. Daily Plans:
These are my daily plans for what I use. I know there is way more in this bundle than you could possibly teach within 2 weeks.
- 1. Facts about the decade
Some interesting facts I have included about the decade sheet.
- 2. Chapter Preview Sheets:
I do these with every chapter to allow the students to at least see what we are going to be studying before the unit begins. I have included 2 different versions of the Chapter Preview sheet. The chapter preview sheets take about 20 minutes to do in class. It is a good this to do on a day that a test is being gone over or while doing a Pre-test for the Cold War.
- 3. 42 Movie Guide:
I start the 1950's showing the movie 42. This is a great way to introduce the 1950's with a very good story on how desegregation had begun to influence the United States, specifically baseball. The students love it and it gives me lots to talk about with them as we move forward into the 1960's. ( 3 days)
- 4. Americanization Teaching:
This is a 1 day unit on the Americanization of things around us. It is a 16 slide PPT discussing how Americanization has moved beyond our borders to other parts of the world and why. (1 day)
- 5. COLD WAR PPT:
The Cold War should be started with a Pre-test on the Cold War. and then begin with the 1950's 36 slide PPT. This is meant to be taught over the course of 3 days. and includes a student note taking guide so that students will be able to follow along easier. (3 days)
2. Cold War 36 slides (3 days)
3. Both PPT's have video included in the download. The videos will have to be manually put in the PPT as sometimes the videos do not stay on the slides when uploaded and downloaded.
- 6. Cold War HW Assignments:
The first HW assignment I give is the vocab assignment. It will be in a folder labeled Cold War HW. I have also included the GIFT assignment which if chosen to be given to the students should be given at the beginning of the unit. ( 20 minutes to go over)
- 7. 13 Days Movie:
I start the Cuban Missle Crisis using the Stanford Lesson materials, which are free. (Day 1)
I then go through the different people involved on the US side of things to make sure the students understand what we will be seeing over the course of the period. I will then begin showing the 13 Days in class making sure the students know just how close to WWIII we came. (Day 2)
- 8. Discussion Day:
This is a great day to do an in class discussion on the concepts that have been taught over the last week. Give the students 20 minutes to write their own answers and then have them discuss for 20 minutes. (1 Day)
- 9. Story of US Superpowers:
Great review of everything that was covered in the teaching. The show was pulled off of youtube but is on Amazon Prime for free if you have that. (1 Day)
- 10. Test:
This is the test I use with this unit. Unfortunately it is based on the book we use, American Anthem, and should be handed out a couple days prior to the test. (1 Day)
- 11. Crash Course EP. 37 / 38:
CRASH COURSE SAMPLE
Here is what is included in this 6 page download:
1. Note Taking Guide for Students:
This is essentially a blank section to take notes in.
2. Summary of the Video:
A place for the students to write a short summary of what they have watched.
3. Teacher Notes from the:
My 1 page of notes.
4. Vocabulary Section:
I have chosen 3 words that would be good to have the students look up. I also have them write each of the words in a sentence.
5. Quiz for students / with answers:
There is a 7 question quiz with answers from the episode. It can be taken in class or taken home. I think in class would be better.
6. Blank Template for student created quiz:
I decided to add this to every Crash Course guide as it works really well with students.
**Also, I highly recommend having the students watch this on .5 speed. If you click the wheel on the bottom of the youtube video you can adjust the speed.
- 12. Optional Stuff:
Here are a couple more items that I use just to mix it up or do in case the students are interested. 1. Cold War Propaganda video, 2. Cuban Missile Crisis assignment, 3.Yesterday Show Project that I typically use at the end of the year.
- 13. Paragraph Prompts –
These some good ideas to have your students write about during the course of the year. They are apart of my free download that is in my store.
- 14. Flipped classroom 2 page guide -
This allows the students to work through the PPT with assistance.
