- 0. Daily Plans:
These are my daily plans for what I use. I know there is way more in this bundle than you could possibly teach within 2 weeks.
- 1. Facts about the decade:
Some interesting facts I have included about the decade sheet.
- 2. Chapter Preview Sheets:
I do these with every chapter to allow the students to at least see what we are going to be studying before the unit begins. I have included 2 different versions of the Chapter Preview sheet. The chapter preview sheets take about 20 minutes to do in class. It is a good this to do on a day that a test is being gone over or while doing a Pre-test for the Cold War.
- 3. LBJ and JFK PPT:
I start the 1960's by going through the different events that really create and help some of the major problems of the 1960's. This is a 16 slide presentation that comes with a note taking guide. A good extension of this PPT is watching the 2 President videos from the History Channel.
- 4. 1960's Civil Rights PPT:
The Civil Rights movement helped change the landscape of America regarding where people lived and what they do. This is one of my best presentations as it is 37 slide PPT. It covers what happened with African Americans, Native Americans, and Latinos regarding Civil Rights. (3 days)
- 5. Civil Rights Assignments:
I like to give the students the actually literacy test that the people took to vote in the 1950's. The first assignment is the Literacy test and the second assignment is a what would you do type of assignment after teaching about the Civil Rights movement. Both assignments take 2.5 days to complete.
- 6. Hippies
This is a PPT that goes through what the Hippies were doing and thinking at the time.
- 7. 13 Days Movie:
I start the Cuban Missile Crisis using the Stanford Lesson materials, which are free. (Day 1)
I then go through the different people involved on the US side of things to make sure the students understand what we will be seeing over the course of the period. I will then begin showing the 13 Days in class making sure the students know just how close to WWIII we came. (Day 2)
- 8. Discussion Day:
This is a great day to do an in class discussion on the concepts that have been taught over the last week. Give the students 20 minutes to write their own answers and then have them discuss for 20 minutes. (1 Day)
- 9. Reading Comprehension
A good way for students to learn about the decade is by reading about it. These are 3 essays that can help with that.
- 10. Civil Rights Test
This is a test and a review sheet.
- 11. Optional Stuff:
Here are a couple more items that I use just to mix it up or do in case the students are interested. 1. Gift Assignment, 2. optional 1960's PPT of famous figures 3.Yesterday Show Project that I typically use at the end of the year.
- 12. Story of US Superpowers:
Great review of everything that was covered in the teaching. The show was pulled off of youtube but is on Amazon Prime for free if you have that. (1 Day)
- 13. Vietnam PPT:
Great 1 day review of everything dealing with Vietnam. I try to break down the war into its most simplistic terms. I have also included 2 videos to help explain and show this war. (1 Day) I have also included my Vietnam War in a day lesson. It is a great time saver as I know I always wish I had more time to spend on Vietnam so this was the solution.
- 14. Gift Assignment
This is a great way for students to completely understand the decade.
- 15. Crash Course
I am including 3 episode guides. Episodes 38, 39 and 40.
1. Note Taking Guide for Students:
This is essentially a blank section to take notes in.
2. Summary of the Video:
A place for the students to write a short summary of what they have watched.
3. Teacher Notes from the:
My 1 page of notes.
4. Vocabulary Section:
I have chosen 3 words that would be good to have the students look up. I also have them write each of the words in a sentence.
5. Quiz for students / with answers:
There is a 10 question quiz with answers from the episode. It can be taken in class or taken home. I think in class would be better.
6. Blank Template for student created quiz:
I decided to add this to every Crash Course guide as it works really well with students.
**Also, I highly recommend having the students watch this on .5 speed. If you click the wheel on the bottom of the youtube video you can adjust the speed.
- 16. Yesterday Show Project -
A project that allows students to review everything from the semester in a presentation format.
- 17. Letter From Birmingham Jail -
I have included multiple ways to teach this important document.
Letter from Birmingham Jail
- 18. Flipped classroom 2 page guide -
This guide is a great way to keep students accountable for going through the PPT on their own instead of direct teaching.
- 19. Selma Video Guide -
Great guide to help keep students on track during the video. I have included a 2 page guide with a key to all the questions.
- 20. Muhammad Ali Lesson -
I added my tribute to Muhammad Ali with a collection of videos, reading, and an evaluation of his life.
Selma Video Guide
- 20. Muhammad Ali Famous Figure Evaluation -
I have added this lesson to the bundle in honor of Ali. He was tremendously influential and spending a day reading and evaluating his life is a worthy cause. This includes a short reading, quotes, and evaluation and links to some good videos with varying lengths.
