I have my students research two events each from 1980 to today. From there they place their events in the bracket. If they are a group of two they use the four event bracket, if they are a group of three they use the six event bracket. After researching they must debate which of their events moves on to the next round. They keep on going like this until they reach a "champion" and have one event left. Students look to answer what event was the most impactful/important from 1980 to today. I use this for U.S. history class, but it could be tweaked to be world history also.
