The film version of George Orwell's 1984 dystopian novel is full of complex, multilayered scenes. Use this movie guide to help students draw meaning from the film and connect the lessons that can be learned to their own life.
Discuss with your students the 11 high-level, short answer and essay questions by pausing at the designated times on the movie guide. See the thumbnails for example questions and the preview file for higher resolution sample questions.
Note: This movie is rated R, use caution when showing to students. I'd recommend previewing the movie, marking the times that you'd wish to skip and then pausing and skipping the sections that contain violence and nudity. Here is the IMDB parental guide
An answer key is not included as many questions are open-ended and encourage students to analyze the film. Many answers will not fit into a 'box'. Students are encouraged to construct their own meaning from the characters' dialogue and behavior. On average, completing this movie guide will require about 30-45 minutes in addition to the length of the movie.
