Measurement with non-standard units
This set of task cards is aligned to common core standard 1.MD.2
. This standard states, "Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps. Limit to contexts where the object being measured is spanned by a whole number of length units with no gaps or overlaps."
24 Task Cards- Real life objects. Students will choose their non-standard unit (either paperclip, butterfly, key, or worm) and then measure the different items on each task card and write on recording sheet. 1.MD.2 I use these with my kids after I introduce the concept. When students are working on math by themselves (during a concept that is a version of daily 5 for math), they can work through these task cards. You can also set them up around the room and have students move through the task cards.
Included in this pack:
*24 task cards students can measure different objects using 4 different units of measure (1.MD.2)
