These are the high frequency words in Spanish for Senderos. The cards fit perfectly in a snack Ziploc bag. I purposely cut a small corner of the Ziploc bag in order to avoid air in the baggies.I print them in two different colors so that the students can mix the cards with a partner and are able to get their cards back at the end of the activity.
I use them in the following manner but you can customize the strategies to fit your class.
Point of slap the card
Students cut their cards and write their number or seat number. For example, I have them sitting in a group of 4. One is chair 1, 2,3 and 4. Chair 1 and 3 will get the same color page but have different number on the back. Chair 2 and 4 will also have the same color
page. We read the cards together and have students point to a word. For example, I'll say "dice", they will point to the words and I will show them a gesture for dice (hand moving as in talking). They should point to the card as fast as they can but today's lesson is just to introduce the words and say a sentence along with the word.
Have the students lay their 6 cards and study their words by reading them over and over. Then, they flip them over so they are not looking. The teacher show the cards on the doc camera and the student will see if they can remember where the word was.
Flash cards with buddies
Chair 1 will gather his cards along with his buddy's and flash his buddy with the cards. If the buddy can read them, then he gets to keep them. If the buddy cannot read them Chair 1 buddy can help him read it and keeps buddy's cards. Once Chair 1 has done through all of them the students switch roles. You can have the students keep track of who got the most.
On a white board the students will write the word right in the middle and write it 4 more times around the corners, then they read them and move on to the next word. You can just hand write the words on the board.
Spell with buddy
Chair 1 will read card to chair 2 and 2 will spell or try to spell word (on white board). If the spelling is correct he or she will keep the card, if it's not correct the buddy will write it correctly. Once Chair 1 has gone through all the card the students will switch roles.
One page of theme 1 and 2 will serve two children so if you have a class of 30 you will only need to make 15 copies. For theme 3-6 you should cut the last 2 columns and that will be a set for a students so if you have a class of 30 students you will need to make 12 copies.
