First Grade NO PREP Writing Portfolios - Creating student writing portfolios for your first grade students is a wonderful way to show each student's progression throughout the school year, and it makes the perfect keepsake! Print off and assemble these books at the beginning of the year, and have students complete prompts throughout the school year. These books highlight the writing transformation from the beginning to end of the year. Teachers, parents, and your students will enjoy looking back at the remarkable progress!
This file includes prompts to be administered at different points during the year, NO PREP – Simply copy and staple onto a book. You can also store pages in a file folder and make it into a book later. This may work best when some students need an extra page (included).
Choose to create a 9 or 10 month Writing Portfolio OR Select only those months you wish to include. Some teachers prefer to do this every other month.
The headers at the top of the pages read, “Here is my best work in (name of Month).!” All pages include the same prompt, “I like to…”. The writing paper is differentiated. You can choose from 4 formats for each month (3 lines, 4 lines, 5 lines, or full page). Extra writing pages are included at the end of the file for more advanced writers if needed.
TEACHER TIP: I prefer to mix and match the different formats. Here is how I set up my portfolios so that the number of lines increases as my students’ writing improves:
3 lines – Sept, Oct
4 lines – Nov, Dec, Jan
5 lines – Feb, March, April
Full page – May, June
4 options of Portfolio Covers are included with line for student’s name (copy on cardstock or Astrobrights)
I LOVE using these portfolios in my classroom!! It truly shows the tremendous growth of beginner writers. Once all prompts are completed, I make a copy of each. I send one copy on to next year’s teachers and send the originals home to the parents as a keepsake. Parents are always amazed at the transformation from the beginning to the end of the year with both writing and illustrating!
Thank you for looking!
