These language calendars for the 2016-2017 school year, created by Heather Bates, SLP were developed to promote language development (grammar, sentence structures, vocabulary, reasoning skills, etc.) in first and/or second grade students. They are meant to be sent home with your students at the beginning of the given month to assist parents in engaging in meaningful, language rich dialogues with their children on a daily basis. Often times parents do not know how to engage in activities that promote language development and these monthly handouts are meant to provide guidance for them. Many of the skills targeted align with the Common Core Standards along with other developmentally appropriate language skills. The calendars start in September and run through August so the summer months are also included! Each month different language based questions are asked. Topics include but are not limited to: categorization, phonemic awareness/phonics, sorting by attribute, grammar, which does not belong, synonyms, antonyms, and homophones. These calendars are a great way to involve parents in the education of their children. The adorable clip art is from www.mycutegraphics.com.
