This is a fun center you can use to help your students practice fractions! The object of the game is for students to completely fill each shape.
Students will need a laminated "Roll a Fraction" game board and a fraction die. I created dice by writing fractions on round labels and sticking on each side of a die. Use whatever fractions your students need to know! We focus on just halves and fourths in 1st grade.
Choose which game boards you would like your students to use. Print and laminate or place in plastic sheet protectors. You may choose to start with the circle and square shapes, since they are easier to partition and can be used to create a variety of fractions. The other shapes will be more difficult, since some only lend themselves to halves or fourths. (Easy differentiation! :)
Students will play with a partner or small group. On each turn, students will roll the die and color that fraction using a shape on their game board with a dry-erase marker. If students roll a fraction they can no longer color (i.e. rolled ½ but only have ¼ left) they will lose their turn! The first person to fill each shape wins!
