First Grade Common Core Word Problem Worksheets 1.G.2 Composing Shapes and Pattern Block Printable Shapes
(I have included colored pattern block shapes that can be printed and cut out if you do not have pattern blocks available to you or if you would like the students to cut and paste the pattern blocks onto the paper for the composing of a new shape. This also could be helpful for students who have difficulty with fine motor skills, such as drawing.)
**In the yearlong progression, these worksheets were designed to be taught in the 2nd nine weeks; however, they could be used any time after you have taught the review concepts. You could also use the front of the worksheets in isolation.
The following attachment is a five day series of worksheets, which includes a test for Friday. Each day has two worksheets, designed to be copied front and back. The front sheet of each day is the focus standard of the week and the back page has concepts previously taught.
The focus concept this week is:
CCSS.Math.Content.1.G.A.2 Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.1
The review concepts on this week of worksheets are standards:
CCSS.Math.Content.1.MD.C.4 Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.
CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.A.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Each set of worksheets incorporates word problems and place value every day.
