Description

This product is designed to help kids who are reading at Guided Reading Level D (DRA Level 4) become skilled at comprehending simple passages and answering text-based questions.

For many students, this level is ideal for use at the beginning of first grade. To help provide each student reading material at just the right level, this resource is part of a series of Reading Comprehension Passages for Guided Reading Levels C through P.

To provide flexibility, for use in distance learning and/or a classroom setting, the following options are offered:

1) A link for use in Google Slides

2) A link to a document with a JPEG image of each page

3) Ready for use with the new TpT Digital Tool

4) Printable, in full color, as a traditional PDF

5) An ink-saving black and white printable version

This resource is ideal for use in distance learning, guided reading groups, centers, and Response to Intervention groups.

Sixteen reading comprehension passages are included. With each passage, there is a worksheet consisting of four multiple choice questions.

As students find the evidence that supports their answers, they participate in their very first close reading lessons.

One page of written response activities also accompanies each reading passage. The written response pages include writing, labeling and/or fill in the blank activities.

With guided practice, kids quickly develop the skills they need to be successful reading these passages and independently answering the text-dependent questions.

These passages are based on common sight words. I have kids find and highlight selected sight words.

Doing so supports the following Student Outcomes and Common Core Standards:

Students will read common high-frequency words by sight (CCSS ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3c).

Students will recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words (CCSS ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3g).
