*I designed these activities for the students who are above grade level in my first grade classroom. The text in the Harcourt series is below their reading level, but I like to use the text to introduce reading skills and strategies that they have not yet learned. For example, I use Todd’s box to introduce making inferences about characters, analyzing characters, and comparing characters. Of course, I supplement with harder texts during their reading groups to ensure that they are reading books on their level; however, these easy Harcourt stories really give them a chance to learn the reading skill/strategy! Hopefully it will help you as much as it helps me!

The graphics are in color but print great in black and white! Add a staple and the packet is ready to go! Or…pick and chose to meet the needs of your students.
