These cards were designed to accompany the McGraw-Hill Wonders program for first grade. They are based off of standard high-frequency lists and could really be used with any curriculum. The words are organized by unit as introduced in Wonders.
In our first grade classrooms we use these memory tricks to help students remember how to spell tricky high-frequency words. Each week students are given the blank high-frequency cards for that week’s lessons. We then introduce each high-frequency word and model each trick on our interactive white boards as students draw along on their own white boards
The high-frequency memory tricks are then posted in the classroom and students fill out their own memory cards as a part of their word work time.
We encourage students to utilize these tricks as they write and read their high-frequency words. Often times they even draw the tricks right onto their spelling tests! We hope you enjoy our high-frequency word memory cards. Feel free to visit our blog for more ideas: http://dancinginourteachershoes.blogspot.com/
