This part was designed to be used in the 1st Six Weeks of 1st Grade and is the 1st part in a series of six parts. It includes Sets 1-6 and will last six weeks. However, it can be used at any time of the year to help students that may need intervention or extra practice. Most of the skills presented in the first few weeks are a review of Kindergarten skills.
This product its made up of 4 Main Components in order to cover a variety of language arts and reading strands. These are aligned to the NEW ELAR TEKS. Here is a brief overview of each component:
1.) Daily Word Work Review: These review tasks work on phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, high frequency words, rhyming, syllables, simple reading comprehension, parts of speech and handwriting. (These will change throughout the year.)
2.) Daily Mentor Sentences: This includes a sentence that serves as a model to help students understand how sentences are made up and help students eventually be able to craft their own “good” sentences. Each day a different activity is presented to make this a routine that students truly enjoy.
3.) Daily Reading Responses: These Daily Reading Response sheets can be used to help review the deeper comprehension standards. Students can respond to a book that is read aloud by the teacher or a parent, a book they listen to online or from a CD in a listening station, or a book they read independently.
4.) Morning Message Writing Prompts: These are a set of “quick writes” that give students an opportunity to write to a prompt that they have a personal response to. These can be used as a part of a class morning meeting for sharing or at a writing work station. They can also be used as an authentic revising and editing tool.
Each component can be used in conjunction with the other parts or on its own. You definitely do not have to use all of these to be successful. Each component has a Teacher Background and Instruction Sheet to give tips for using it in your classroom.
All of the activities are intended to be a spiral review of skills already taught and to help fill in the gaps for skills students may need more practice in.
Please download the preview to get a good idea of the type of activities that are included. Teachers from all states will find these review sheets helpful to their students if you are needing a quick daily review.
This is by far one of my favorite projects I’ve worked on, and it’s been in the works for a long time! If you have any questions, please let me know!
