Even though the Common Core Standards DO NOT require first graders to learn about thirds, I like to teach them anyway, so they are included in my lesson. (The second grade teachers are always thankful.)
Partitioning circles and rectangles are the only shapes required, but I included triangles and squares as well.
I recommend teaching the I Do and We Do sections whole group with students at the carpet. Use your SmartBoard pens to show how to divide the shapes into equal parts. You can also put a large sheet of paper over your board and hand draw the lines yourself.
Have fun teaching!
