Description

1st Grade Morning Work Unit 4! This is the fifth unit of my 1st Grade Morning Work Daily Spiral Review. This comprehensive Morning Work is a daily review that spirals the common core math standards and grammar, spelling, and writing skills for first grade. It is quick, but effective for learning, reviewing, and maintaining skills all year! Your kids will love getting started on their Daily Spiral Review every morning! Or it can easily be used as a Spiral Homework, in either a printable or digital format.

Update: This first grade Morning Work, Unit 4, is available as both a printable pdf and as Tpt Digital Activities for Google Classroom on the Tpt platform. Click the "Create Digital Activity" button for the digital version

You can assign the TpT digital pages in the unit to your students through Google Classroom.  Once the student accesses the link through Google Classroom, they can complete, turn in, and receive Teacher feedback on the TpT platform.

Your first graders' morning work, whether printable or digital, will actually work for them to master essential English Language Arts and Math skills by the end of the year through continual daily review. This strategy produced amazing results with my students, because they didn't forget what they had learned.

Common Core State Standards covered include:

*ELA - L.1.1, L.1.2

*Math - All Grade 1 Standards as the year progresses

The Language Arts Daily Edit portion of each printable provides two sentences to be edited (using editing marks) and then rewritten correctly as edited. It is more than just a simple "Fix the Sentence" activity. The sentences are designed to practice and spiral review the ELA Common Core Standards of editing, grammar usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling patterns. The comprehensive daily editing increases in difficulty and becomes second-nature over time, which helps to strengthen writing abilities in all areas. The sentences are aligned with the Reading Street First Grade reading series units, but can be used effectively with other first grade language arts program, such as Journeys, Wonders, Open Court, or as a supplement or guide for a self-created language arts program.

The Math Review portion is designed to practice and spiral review ALL First Grade Common Core Standards in a repetitive format that increases in difficulty over time, including 5 addition and/or subtraction facts on every page.

Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
