This English English Word Non-Negotiable program (1st grade) is designed for bilingual, ESL and struggling readers and writers. Our teachers and other schools who use it find it highly beneficial for all students as it provide a basis to rapidly provide the emergent learners a foundation in the spelling of basic words. Each word is then written into a sentence for students to readily apply the newly learned word. Our second through fourth grade teachers have discovered it is essential in writing for all students regardless of educational background. The enclosed teacher guidelines provide a school or a classroom to implement the program with fidelity regardless of educational background or native language. This program begins the transition into our 800 English Word Non-Negotiable program that also continues to complete the basic language arts word gaps than may exist in each student’s education, and it permits a teacher to be creative in lesson planning since the students have spelling command of some of the most basic words in the English language. It is an absolutely essential program in all Title 1 schools and with schools with struggling learners. This program is not fancy in design or implementation, but it is extremely effective and an entry-level teacher may use the program as efficiently and effectively as a veteran teacher with similar classroom results…which is a major reason why it is valuable and works so well. Note: I have opted in September, 2015 to provide this as a free resource. A title 1 school or a medium/high SES school with struggling readers and writers will have difficulty academically with their/those students without using it...or a resource very similar.
