Your students will LOVE practicing reading and writing their high frequency words with these QR code task cards!
Simply print, cut, and laminate the QR codes. Place in a small group or literacy center. Allow students to scan the QR codes using an iPad, tablet, or other mobile device that has a QR code reader. The QR codes are linked to a word on Flickr, so you'll need to be connected to the internet.
After scanning the QR code, students should read the word and then write it on the recording sheet. Three different variations are included:
1. Students choose 10 cards, scan them, and record the words on the recording sheet by writing the card number in the circle and the word on the line.
2. Students scan cards for the current week's high frequency words, as well as the previous week's words. Depending on the number of words, you may need to use the sheet with 14 spaces.
3. Scan up to, or all, 34 cards and record the words on the recording sheet.
Use whichever you like best! Or, allow students to write the words on whiteboards instead.
For a whole group activity, hang the cards around the room or place on desks and have your students “scan, write, and read” the room!
The high frequency words included are the 1st Grade Unit 2 high frequency words from the Scott Foresman Reading Street curriculum. Words included are: said, want, good, catch, no, put, could, be, old, paper, of, horse, people, live, work, who, out, there, down, inside, now, together, grow, food, around, find, water, under, family, other, also, their, some, new.
