1st Grade-Social Studies-Adv. Diff-Unit: Citizenship and Government
Advanced differentiation in the units for first grade social studies consists of parallel projects based on the long-term learning targets from the core unit. Teachers should bring advanced learners together and for mini-lessons around these engaging and challenging tasks, which will deepen and extend their understanding of core concepts and skills. After the mini-lessons, students may work on each of the project tasks at learning centers, as independent or partner work, or as homework. These projects are also ideal for use during the literacy block when appropriate (literacy learning targets are included with each project). Included are also recommendations for creating small group instruction around these projects. Your advanced learners can participate in core lessons from curriculum guides as needed and engage in the projects to stay challenged.
