1st Grade-Social Studies-Adv. Differentiation-Unit: Geography
Advanced differentiation in the units for first grade social studies consists of 2 parallel projects among which you or your students may choose. These projects align with the learning targets from both social studies and literacy and can easily be used to challenge your advanced learners in either subject or through an integrated model. The projects for Unit 2: Geography challenge students to apply concepts and strategies with greater depth and complexity. Students may work on these projects as anchor activities (i.e., work to go to when core work is completed or when waiting for time with the teacher), homework, parallel extensions, replacement activities, or in learning centers you can build using these materials. Included are also recommendations for creating small group instruction around these projects. The projects themselves are described in student-friendly language on task cards and come with hand-outs to help students organize their work. These project cards can be placed in a learning center, given to students to keep in a folder, or organized in any other way that fits with your classroom practices. In this document, you will find everything you need to set up a choice of 2 parallel projects and/or learning centers for advanced learners during this unit.
