This 62 page power point presentation covers the 10 lessons contained in Domain 1 of the first grade common core math standards. Power point presentation can be easily shown on the smartboard to use during whole group math. If you would like students to follow along and complete the blanks as you go, print the slides that you want students to have. Depending on how long you spend on each lesson's topic, this presentation can be used for a minimum of 10 school days. A more realistic pace for the topics covered in this presentation is 15-20 days to allow for differentiation to meet the varying needs of learners. The presentation is extremely flexible, allowing teachers to build in extension/reteaching days as necessary.
The slides are grouped by lesson and arranged to allow for a gradual release of responsibility. They follow the "I do, we do, you do" sequence. There are 2 “I do” slides per lesson to be modeled by the teacher. Think alouds should be done during these slides. Then there is 1 “We do” slide where the teacher guides students to help complete the answers. Then there are 2 “You do” slides that the students can complete in partners and/or on their own. During these slides, the teacher can circulate and assist struggling students as necessary. Slides are marked clearly in the upper right hand corner with these labels.
This presentation is easily differentiated due to its sequential nature. Students who are able to do the work easily can be given each lesson as a packet to work on in partners or independently, and then their work can be checked by the teacher to ensure mastery of concepts.
