This is a screener to be used by 2nd grade teachers during the first 3 weeks of school. First, and kinder may use portions of this screener, and upper grades may use the screener for those students who have an IEP identifying that they are performing below 3rd grade. The screener is in both English and Spanish. The screener includes a teacher resources/guide page, a score sheet, and a student screener sheet.
The screener focuses on letter name and sound recognition, spelling patters (taught in 1st grade), rhyming, and fluency. There are recommendations for grouping the students based on performance.
I hope this helps you out. Many times, we don't have data to start grouping students early on in the year. It's recommended that students are screens every 6 or 9 weeks and regrouped, or at minimum beginning, middle and end of year.
