What educators are saying
Description
Your mathematicians and engineers will LOVE designing and constructing these fun robots composed of two-dimensional shapes, or 2-D shapes! Depending on the grade level, your mathematicians and engineers can use their shape robots to show how many circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombuses, and hexagons, and how many sides and vertices they used! This is great for differentiation or a mix of grade levels!
There's a bonus engineering connection! There is a read aloud book that can used to create shared knowledge about robots before engineers create their own. Engineers can also use a recording sheet to describe how their robot helps humans by doing three tasks. Twelve constraints cards are also included to extend learning into a station.
You can use fun robot-themed books, like Love, Z and Robot in Love to deepen connections!
There are suggested uses (see photographs in preview and/or thumbnails) for this project, but it can be very open-ended and can be differentiated to fit your math, science, or engineering curricular or students' needs.
Includes:
- The Most Important Thing About Robot book (to create shared knowledge about robots)
- Design a Robot Printables (six options for engineers to sketch a design first)
- All About My Robot Printable (write how robot helps humans & 3 things it can do)
- 2 Options for Counting 2-D Shapes Headings: "I Like Shapes a Bot!" and "My Robot Has..."
- 3 Options for Counting 2-D Shapes (designed for K, 1, and 2 standards)
- 6 Printable 2-D Shape pages (cut to create robots)
- 12 Create Cards (challenge or enrichment cards that give engineers constraints on their designs-- can be used for craft OR in a station for extended learning with leftover shapes)
- Sketch a Robot Printable (use as recording sheet for station)
All pages are designed in blackline, ideal for ink-savings.
Pages can be printed on white copy paper or cardstock so students can color OR colored paper or cardstock for a vibrant bulletin board.
