This was designed to help students that have not yet learned all of their letters and sounds by first or second grade. It can be used as an intervention and progress can be monitored by giving letter and sound assessments on a regular basis.
Each week, give each participating student a Picture Sort sheet and have them cut out all of the letter and picture cards. Review each picture to make sure students can correctly identify them. Work with students to sort pictures into letter-sound piles. Students should practice sorting on their own and writing their letters.
Homework packets are also available, in a separate download, for each week’s letters and give students practice in writing their letters and thinking of words that start with those letter sounds.
