2 Picture Graphs - Favorite Animals & Pets
Review surveys; why do we take them? Brainstorm the questions asked in the survey (What is your favorite animal? What is your favorite pet?).
Review the key words for addition (sum, total, altogether, in all, combined) and for subtraction (difference, how many more, how many less/fewer).
Model how to read and interpret a picture graph, using a think-aloud strategy. Focus student attention on the key. Guide students to answer questions about the graph, create their own questions and have their classmates answer them.
Answer keys included.
