Teaching students to represent whole numbers in a variety of ways, is integral in assisting them in developing solid place value understandings.
Included in this PDF are 2 differentiated tasks.
The first page focuses on 2-digit numbers. Students follow the given example to complete the remainder of the activity sheet; working towards representing two digit numbers as tens and ones, in written form, diagram using MABs and expanded notation sum.
The second page focuses on 3-digit numbers with an element of problem solving. Students must use the information/'clues' provided about each 3-digit number, to complete the rest of the number representations in the same way as the previous page.
I usually enlarge to A3 and photocopy onto coloured card to hang around the classroom.
Alternatively it can be used as an assessment piece!
